Elaine, mick, brian, Petra, mmbaga, and me on the road for six days, through the dusty streets of safari and climbing hub Arusha and off west to the Serengeti and Ngorogoro caldera.
First night was in the Serena hotel on the escarpment 600m above lake alkaline lake manyara. The first thing I did after normal tech charging was to jump in the gorgeous highly-touted infinity pool, which was not a disappointment. As I finished with Anita's tai chi poses, a friend sauntered over to greet me. I always carry a flashlight, so I anxiously kept track of him, but he wouldn't frighten off, and he even followed me to the adjacent bar! After my South African scorpion bite, I was taking no chances.
Food at Serena Manyara was fantastic, which i repeatedly kept reminding the chefs with a "asante sana, sawa sawa". Gorgeous soft views over the alkaline lake 600m below. Again, I have to keep on my toes to keep the electronics and back up battery charged on my one converter. None of the foreign power plugs work in the room.
Day two: we are lucky to get a reasonable rising time, like 6am, and a nice healthy brekkie. They always have Indian cuisine in Tanzania due to the large number of ethnic Indians here, so there is always something vego to eat. So, here we go back into the same Landcruiser we use for transit, for the game drive at the lake, but surprise, we now find the top of the truck pops up like a Barbie camper!
